Winnipeg Mennonite Elementary & Middle Schools are preparing to host a special community garage sale.

The event, inspired by an earlier book sale, will raise funds for two local organizations.

Sara Litz, a grade 4 teacher at WMEMS Bedson School, said they had several books left over from the sale and wondered if she could get the community involved.

“We thought a front yard garage sale was a great way to involve students, families, and members of the community,” Litz says.

Together with help from grade 2 teacher Chelsea Rivard and administrative assistant Lyndsay Ross, the school has planned the sale for Saturday, May 27. Students, as well as members of the school community, will be running the tables. Some classes will also be baking items for the sale.

All proceeds will be donated to Literacy for Life and Siloam Mission.

“We chose Literacy for Life because this all started as a book sale,” Litz said. Siloam Mission will also receive part of the proceeds. Family, friends, and the entire community are invited to shop and visit the WMEMS Bedson School front lawn on May 27.
