A Winnipeg woman is recovering after being sexually assaulted in her apartment by an unknown suspect.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Furby Street, police arrived to the apartment of a woman who had been sexually assaulted.

Police say the woman was alone in her home when an unknown male broke into her suite through an unlocked fire escape door.

The suspect then sexually assaulted the lone woman, who fought back. Calling for help, the woman was able to scare the suspect who then fled.

The victim was brought to the hospital where she was treated and has since been released.

The suspect is described as Indigenous, 5'7, of a stocky build and approximately 25-30 years old. He has short black hair. At the time of the assault, he was wearing a blue or grey shirt, beige shorts, black shoes, had a black backpack, and donned a blue surgical mask.

The WPS Sex Crimes Unit is investigating the incident. They ask that if anyone has information regarding the attack to call 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
