The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating after a woman experienced a medical event after being restrained by Winnipeg police and given a sedative by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.
Just before 10 a.m. on Monday, paramedics were called to the 500 block of Arlington Street, where an adult female was in medical distress. The female was exhibiting erratic and combative behaviour, and a struggle ensued.
Winnipeg police were called to the scene, where they restrained the female before paramedics administered a chemical sedative. After sedation, the female experienced a further medical event and was transported to hospital in critical condition.
The Independent Investigation Unit continues to investigate.
