An event at the park theatre aims to raise money for two local women’s shelters and bring awareness to domestic violence.

The 4th annual Women Helping Women charity concert takes place this Thursday.

Stacey James is a co-founder of the event and says parts of the ticket sales and all cash donations go to two local women’s shelters.

James also says people who attend are encouraged to write letters of support to women currently staying at those shelters.

"It gives us a little bit of a platform to discuss some of the things that aren't spoken about all the time," James said. "It's a way to quietly give [women] these resources."

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or at the door.

James says they are also accepting donations of items such as feminine hygiene products, tooth brushes, clothing and toys for children.

"A lto of these women leave these situations with nothing," James said. "It's important for them to feel they have something, even if it's not material and that some stranger out there is saying 'good for you, you got this, there's places to support you, keep your head up.'"
