The Winnipeg Police Service is asking for anyone with information about a recent report of a suspicious death in the downtown area to come forward.

The WPS received the report of a fire near the area of McDonald Avenue and Gomez Street at approximately 1 a.m. on April 27.

Central District General Patrol officers made their way to the scene and found a dead victim.

The WFPS members were on site treating the fire while the Forensic Services Unit processed the scene. Currently, an autopsy is pending.

The Homicide Unit has since assumed the investigation.
