One victim is recovering from minor injuries after a 22-year-old male tried stealing money and cigarettes at a rural community store.

On December 5, 2022, at approximately 3:50 am, RCMP responded to a robbery in progress at a business on Highway 6, in Ashern.

While officers were en route, they received a second 911 call, advising that the suspect was now fighting with employees.

Officer arrived and placed the suspect under arrest.

The initial investigation determined that the male suspect entered the business, brandished a knife and a stick and demanded money and cigarettes. While the suspect was grabbing money and items, an employee entered the business, startled the suspect, and the suspect began punching the employee. The other employees intervened, and the suspect was held until the police arrived.

One of the employees received minor physical injuries.

Braden McIvor, 22, of Ashern, has been charged with:

  • Robbery x2
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Assault
  • Fail to Comply x2

He was remanded into custody.
