Local Filipino festival continues a legacy of culture and community
Over 300 people attended the Manitoba Filipino Street Festival at the Maples Multiplex Grounds, 434 Adsum Drive, on August 17. The Manitoba Filipino Street Festival, MFSF, is an annual festival that celebrates and promotes the Filipino culture. A notable performance was the Arnis martial art demonstration by the Winnipeg Sikaran Arnis Academy. Arnis is a traditional martial art that is native to the Philippines and is distinguished by its use of sticks. "I'm really excited to try all the food they have here because there is a lot of street food that I miss from the Philippines, and seeing the Filipino Culture within the Canadian community," said Noryn, an attendee of the MFSF. The Manitoba Filipino Street Festival is about a community coming together to continue a legacy of family, unity, and culture.
