Four killed, pilot injured in plane crash near St. Theresa Point First Nation
Four people are dead and a young pilot is in hospital after a plane crash in northern Manitoba. Island Lake RCMP say they received a report of the crash around 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 13. The aircraft went down about 40 kilometres south of St. Theresa Point First Nation, near Makepeace Lake. Police said the flight had departed from St. Theresa Point and was headed for Makepeace Lake. Officers chartered a helicopter to reach the site after coordinates of the downed plane were provided. Search and Rescue personnel from CFB Trenton were also deployed, with two technicians parachuting in to provide medical assistance. Once on scene, RCMP confirmed the 20-year-old male pilot had sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. His four passengers — two men, aged 53 and 49, and two women, both 50 — all from St. Theresa Point First Nation, were pronounced dead at the scene. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been notified and has sent investigators to the site. RCMP say their thoughts are with the families, friends and community members of St. Theresa Point First Nation. The investigation is ongoing.
