Winnipeg's mayor hosted supporters at the RBC Convention Centre last night as he officially kicked off his bid for re-election.

“I’m very excited to formally launch my campaign for re-election tonight,” Brian Bowman said. “Four years ago, our campaign began with a small team of supporters with only a nickel or two in the bank account, single digits in the polls, but our hearts were big, our ideas bold, our hope strong, and our belief in our city was unlimited.”

Bowman told the crowd that he originally ran in 2014 because he felt that City Hall was either working for itself, or when it wasn't "it was working for special interest groups."

“I ran for office because I wanted a City Hall that worked for people and families, a City Hall that was driven by more common sense,” said Bowman.

Bowman told the crowd that he thinks the city is "back on track."

Mayoral candidate Jenny Motkaluk trails Bowman in polls, but many voters are still undecided.
