The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall of certain 340 G (12 OZ) Eat Smart brand Sweet Kale Vegetable Salad Bag Kits.

kalefullThe CFIA says the recall is due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The product is believed to have mostly been sold in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ontario. However, there is a possibility it was sold across Canada.

The product has the following codes:

  • FEB 16 2019
  • 2019 FE 16
  • 2 01B 032
  • 2 01A 032
  • 2 000 32
  • UPC: 7 09351 89145 8

Recalled product should be thrown out or returned to the store where it was purchased.

There have been no reported illnesses so far in connection with the affected product. The CFIA says the recall was triggered as a result of testing.

The CFIA warns that food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.

Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.

Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.

Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
