Two people were rescued from a burning apartment by Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services (WFPS) Wednesday evening.

WFPS responded to the blaze, located in the 0-100 block Dalhousie Drive at 6:31 p.m. on Mar. 25.

Smoke was coming from the building upon WFPS arrival.

Two individuals were pulled from the building, WFPS says. One patient was transported to hospital in critical condition.

The fire was declared under control by 6:57 p.m. and most damages were contained to the suite where the fire began. Other parts of the building did suffer some smoke damage, WFPS says.

Most occupants have not been allowed to return to their suites yet and alternate accommodations are being arranged for the few residents who cannot return to their suites due to significant fire damages.

WFPS says the fire's cause remains under investigation and no damage estimates are currently available.
