A 19-year-old is dead and a 16-year-old is in hospital following a collision Saturday evening.

The Manitoba RCMP says they were called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 11, approximately four km east of Highway 59, around 5:40 p.m.

The initial investigation has determined that a car travelling west on Highway 11, collided head-on with a truck travelling east.

The driver of the car, a 19-year-old male from Traverse Bay, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The passenger, a 16-year-old male from Traverse Bay, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police say they believe that both were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Family has confirmed on social media that the two teenagers are brothers.

The driver of the truck, a 65-year-old male from St. Georges, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Poor visibility and icy conditions are believed to be contributing factors in the collision. The RCMP says they do not believe alcohol was a factor.

Powerview RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
