A 15-year-old boy is dead, and a 16-year-old boy is facing charges in connection to his death.

Winnipeg Police say they were called to a home in the Jefferson neighbourhood at around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday following reports of a shooting in the area.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 15-year-old boy who had suffered a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and discovered that a group of teenagers were socializing in a house when the accused, who brought a sawed-off shotgun, allegedly carelessly pointed the loaded firearm at three of the youths.

Police say one of the teens was shot and killed when the firearm discharged in his direction.

On Wednesday, the Major Crimes Unit arrested a 16-year-old Winnipeg boy. He has been charged with manslaughter and several firearm-related offences.

He remains in custody.
