One teenager is dead and another is facing serious charges following a collision near Thompson over the long weekend.

The collision occurred in Paint Lake Provincial Park around 3:20 Monday morning.

A car drove off a road in the campground and struck a tree. RCMP say they found a 17-year-old male pinned under the vehicle when they arrived. The teen was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, also 17, was arrested for impaired driving causing death. Police allege that he was found to have a blood alcohol concentration nearly twice the legal limit when he provided a breath sample at the detachment.

The driver was later released and charges are pending.

Thompson RCMP along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
