Two people have been charged after an alleged cruise night race ended with a serious collision.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, police say that two vehicles, a white Honda Civic and a black Volkswagon GTI, were racing westbound on Portage Avenue approaching Sturgeon Road when the white Honda struck an eastbound blue Honda Civic turning northbound onto Sturgeon Road.

Two people in one of the cars were transported to hospital in critical and unstable condition. The lone occupant of the second vehicle was taken to hospital as a precaution. They have all since been upgraded to stable condition.

The drivers of the vehicles racing are facing a long list of charges, and both vehicles have been seized and impounded.

The Traffic Division continues to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Traffic Division at 204-986-7085.

Meanwhile, police say Traffic Enforcement continued in the area that evening, with officers stopping one vehicle on Moray Street that was travelling 127 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

The Winnipeg Police Service is reminding motorists to slow down.
