Two people are dead following a fire Thursday morning.

The fire broke shortly after 9:30 a.m. in a three-storey multi-family residence in the 500 block of McDermot Avenue.

Flames and smoke were pouring out of the home when crews arrived at the scene.

They attacked the fire from the interior, declaring the fire extinguished at 10:28 a.m.

Firefighters assisted some of the occupants our of the building, while others self evacuated.

Two people were located in the home and declared dead at the scene.

The complex sustained significant damage, displacing 10 people.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team was deployed to assist those residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation
