Five dogs are recovering after being rescued from a house fire on Sunday afternoon.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of fire in a two-storey duplex in the 1100 block of Logan Avenue at 4:45 p.m.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and launched an interior, offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 5:09 p.m. The residence suffered moderate smoke, fire and water damage.

There were no people in the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters found the five dogs while they were fighting the fire and were able to bring the pets out safely. The WFPS says Winnipeg Animal Services attended the scene to provide care for the animals.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
