Many Winnipeggers found themselves on the unfortunate end of traffic collisions after snow and rain turned to ice Thursday evening.

Things got so bad by 7:00 p.m. that Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) asked the public to stay off all bridges in Winnipeg until city crews could get them sanded.

Temperatures dropped below zero degrees and with cool air under the many bridges in Winnipeg, people soon found themselves driving on pure ice. Some accidents included upwards of 30 vehicles.

Other people found themselves stuck on bridges for over an hour as crews worked to clear the wreckages.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. the WPS tweeted that all bridges had been opened again in the city.

Officials are still urging the public to drive with caution and to give themselves plenty of extra time for the morning commute.
