“When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city.” JOSHUA 6:20

At times we all have felt as if we are up against impenetrable walls. My brother started day one of his life with cerebral palsy. He is a fighter and works to manage the effects, stretching and strengthening his muscles and battling muscle spasms. He is one of my heroes, never making excuses for his handicap or failing to attempt things that would be much more difficult for him than they’d be for others. His bravery inspires me to have his attitude toward my own difficult challenges.

Paul was given faith to heal others yet had to accept the Lord’s reply to his own request that a burdensome “thorn” he bore be removed: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

With the same power that brought down the walls of Jericho, God lifts up His children in our moments of weariness, weakness, and exasperation. He shows His strength and faithfulness. His grace and might penetrate the most burdensome of circumstances, and His power moves things too heavy for us to lift.
