The severe thunderstorm warning has ended in Winnipeg.

Friday afternoon and evening there is a low-pressure system moving across Manitoba. We could see up very strong wind gusts, nickel-sized hail, and heavy rain in Winnipeg.

Environment Canada is expecting another storm-filled weekend for central and southern Manitoba once again.

Natalie Hasell from Environment Canada says, "The activities already started in the southwestern corner of the province. We have a severe thunderstorm warning above Portage la Prairie right now. It's going to be coming our way. I expect we will be included in the watches and warnings a little bit later as the day progresses."

The system is coming from southern Saskatchewan and moving into Manitoba on Friday. It will most likely bring the formation of showers and thunderstorms across the southern Prairies.

Across southern Manitoba and particularly in the southwest corner, these thunderstorms are likely to be severe with the main threats bringing between 2 and 6 cm hail, strong wind gusts up to 100 km/h, and heavy rain up to 50 mm.

There is also the potential for a tornado to be produced due to winds in southwestern Manitoba.

"It's really important that remember that before we get to severe thunderstorms, that regular thunderstorms are dangerous," shares Hasell.

Take the necessary precautions to stay safe and prepare for the storm.
