One man is in custody after an incident in a Winnipeg parking lot turned violent on Friday evening.

The Winnipeg Police Service say they arrived at the parking lot of strip-mall located in the 2300 block of Ness Avenue around 8:15 p.m. They were called to the area for an apparent assault.

Police say that the investigation determined a dispute between two adult males escalated to the point where one male was stabbed multiple times.

Police say that the victim and the suspect were unknown to each other. Const. Rob Carver of the WPS says he can't comment on what led to the dispute.

The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition but his condition has since been upgraded to stable.

A 39-year-old male was located in the area and arrested a short time later. He has been charged with two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance as well as Aggravated Assault.

The suspect remains in custody.
