The Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit is looking for two male suspects after one man was sent to the hospital and multiple others say they were victims of an attempted carjacking.

On April 22, 20202, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Winnipeg Police General officers responded to a report of an attempted carjacking in the parking lot of a business located in the 1300 block of St. James Street.

The victim, an adult male, was an employee arriving for work. He was seated in his vehicle when he noticed two males on bikes trying door handles of other parked cars.

The victim honked his horn in an attempt to scare off the males, however, both suspects aggressively approached his vehicle and attempted to gain entry. The victim was able to lock his doors and safely drive away from the suspects.

He was not injured.

Another employee was in a truck near the first victim. He began hocking his horn in an attempt to scare off the suspects, however, one of the suspects came over and lifted his shirt, displaying what appeared to be the handle of a firearm. The suspects fled on bikes.

Officers searching the area for the suspects were flagged down by a male in a parking lot in the 1400 block of St. James located only a few hundred metres from the first location.

He advised officers that he had been attacked approximately an hour earlier by two males on bikes who had attempted to carjack him. He was suffering from a stab wound to his upper leg.

He had been unable to leave the area or call for help because the suspects had stolen his keys and phone.

The suspects were unable to drive his vehicle because it had a standard transmission.

The victim was conveyed to hospital in stable condition.

The suspects are described as:

  • Male, mid-20’s, wearing a black coloured baseball cap, a black half mask and a black coloured jacket.
  • Young adult male.

These incidents are believed to be related. They are being investigated by the Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit.

Anyone with information concerning these incidents is asked to call investigators at (204) 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).

The Winnipeg Police Service reminds citizens to be extra cautious during this time as there are far fewer people around. Practice situational awareness. Look around, and if anything that doesn’t feel right, get to a place of safety. Keep vehicle doors locked.
