The Bear Clan Patrol is just weeks away from opening the doors to their new home.

The Ndinawe Youth Resource Centre has been the base of the groups operations for most of the last three years. And although they were a gracious host, the Bear Clan Patrol's time and space within the facility were limited, and they felt it was time to find a permanent home.

They have been working on securing a place on Selkirk Avenue since earlier this year.

"We've been working with the landlord since April to get into the place," said James Favel, executive director of the Bear Clan Patrol. "We sort of started occupying in early April, only to find out in May that there was asbestos, and then we were forced out again so the remediation process could happen."

Permits have now started to fall into place and they are just weeks away from opening up what their new permanent space called the Bear Clan Den.

"This new space will allow us to be there around the clock when necessary," explained Favel. "It's going to open up doors for new employment opportunities with our volunteer members."

The Bear Clan Den will also have computers, televisions and laundry facilities available for community members. As well, they will offer language classes and other training opportunities for those interested.

"This office, because we have control over it, we will be able to keep the doors open as long as we please," explained Favel. "I mean it won't be super comfortable or anything, but it will be a place for people to get off the street in times of crisis."

The new space, which will be located at 584 Selkirk Avenue is expected to open up in early November.
