Residents of Beausejour are cleaning up after a strong storm rolled through the town Wednesday evening.

Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for Beausejour and the surrounding area just after 7:00 p.m.

The Town of Beausejour said on Facebook there was an unconfirmed sighting of a tornado in the southeast corner of the town, located about 60 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

Area residents took to Facebook to share about the storm, with many saying there was extensive damage throughout town including toppled trees, damaged rooftops and downed power lines.

"Attention!… due to multiple power lines down throughout the town, we are requesting people stay away from puddles as there are power lines down that could be energizing the puddles. We will update when we have more information," said the Beausejour Brokenhead Fire Department.

One resident said her neighbour's roof was partially torn apart.

"So much damage in Beausejour....Sheds torn off foundations...roof torn off our neighbors house....so sad for everyone," said the resident.

Some areas also experienced flash flooding.

Tornado watches and warnings had remained in effect until late Wednesday evening.
