The Turtle Mountain Bible Camp in western Manitoba took time on Sunday, September 24th, to show off its new kitchen and dining hall.

The camp between Boissevain and Deloraine hosted a record number of 680 campers this past summer and is looking to upgrade facilities to help accommodate those using the camp.

“We wanted to host a come and see so people could see how our building project is progressing” said the camp’s treasurer, Derrall Farmer. The project is a little over half way completed in terms of getting it constructed.

“Building work is about half done and with our fund raising we are just over halfway as well. The project will cost about $2.2 million so we continue to raise funds to see the project through to its completion.”

The major ticket items they continue to work on are the heating and cooling systems in the kitchen. But, before that work is done they need to get the facility insulated for winter. “We need volunteers to come out and help. They should have at least a little bit of carpentry skill and the time to help us with the work which right now includes the strapping of ceilings and stuff like that” said Farmer.

The bible camp has been fund raising for more than 5 years and work on the project started in September of last year. “The ministry here is exciting and the building we are working out of here now is aging and needs to be replaced. We hope the project can be completed early in 2018.”

Plans call to expand the camp’s season from just July and August and they are doing some already. They hope to develop more programs and make better use of the camp on a year round basis.
