Christmas is hard for those who have lost a loved one, or who have no family to celebrate with. It's also the longest night of the year on Thursday.

Many churches hold a Blue Christmas service for those who are struggling in both a literal and figurative dark time. Some call it a Longest Night Christmas service, as churches look to gather around and journey with those who are having a hard time.

Here are a few churches in the city holding a service this week to help those struggling:

  • Oakbank United Church - December 20, 7:00 p.m.
  • Westminster United Church - December 20, 7:00 p.m.
  • Harrow United Church - December 20, 7:30 p.m.
  • St. Mary's Road United Church - December 21, 7:00 p.m.
  • Young United Church - December 21, 7:00 p.m.
  • Soul Sanctuary, December 21, 7:07 p.m.
  • Jubilee Mennonite Church - December 21, 7:30 p.m.
