Travel plans cancelled? Travel Manitoba is sharing how locals can take an exciting vacation while staying in the province.

As part of the Province of Manitoba's current public health orders, those travelling back into the province will be required to self-isolate for 14 days. For folks who only have 14 days of vacation, a trip may not be worth it.

The Province is recommending Manitobans to stay in Manitoba and avoid crossing borders.

"We are going to see a return to a new normal. There will be a lot of travel within family units, visit places that you have never thought of or did not know existed in the Province, and I think that is a bit of a benefit in one way," Colin Ferguson, President and CEO of Travel Manitoba says.

For 2019, Manitoba was named as one of the Top 10 places in the world to travel to by Lonely Planet. Ferguson says that is no coincidence.

"I think that it signalled to a lot of people, certainly we know it and I've known it for a long time, that Manitoba is home to some of the most amazing attractions."

Ferguson notes that around 80 per cent of all travel in the province is actually done by Manitobans, not out-of-province tourists. If a Manitoban has been considering taking a vacation in Manitoba, he suggests that the current situation a great excuse to do it.

"If there is a silver lining this pandemic situation... is the opportunity for Manitobans to experience adventures in their own backyards."

The vastness of the province allows travellers to experience a wide variety of places. While travelling above the 53rd parallel eliminated one of Ferguson's favourite spots, Churchill, he says there is a lot to see in the province.

"This is the time to sit back and look at your own backyard and say 'hey wait a minute, I did not know about this place," Ferguson says.
