Authorities say they are charging a man with outstanding warrants after he led them on a car chase.

Early Saturday morning, the Winnipeg Police Service was conducting impaired driving enforcement with its Checkstop van on Pembina Highway near Grant Avenue. At 2:20 a.m. a speeding car passed the check stop. The car then activated its 4-way flashers and began weaving in and out of traffic.

Officers noticed a baby in the vehicle's child seat and attempted to catch up to the speeding vehicle, who was now driving 90 km/h. As the speeding vehicle continued to evade the officers, the Checkstop van activated its emergency lighting. The van then followed the car through the Confusion Corner area.

At Donald Street at Gertrude Avenue, the car stopped. The driver then exited the car with his hands in the air, laying down on the road. Police say he was impaired. Officers took the man into custody.
