The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are going to be Grey Cup Champions for longer than anticipated.

The CFL says that they are rearranging their calendar for the 2020 season.

The league is officially ruling out the possibility of any summer games. They are saying a shortened season could be store for football fans and are optimistic that the 2020 season will take place.

"It now appears the earliest the CFL might return to play – for a shortened but meaningful season – is this September," the league says in an official statement.

are not announcing or promising a return this fall. We are just letting our fans know this remains one of the remaining possible scenarios for 2020. A cancelled season is also possible. Again, it’s too soon to make a sure call at this point."

Concerns over the pandemic are also demanding the league to think about the Grey Cup Festival differently. This year was supposed to be hosted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, but instead, the CFL is moving their festival to 2022.

"The host of the 2020 Grey Cup Game will be determined by a “win and host’ model. The team that qualifies for the Grey Cup and has a superior regular-season record to its’ opponent will host the Grey Cup Game."

The CFL notes that this will only occur if they continue with the 2020 season.

"We are also considering moving the Grey Cup into December, as we explore every option that will allow us to play as many games as possible in 2020."

The CFL notes that they do not know what is in store for the season yet and will be working to follow all public health orders.

"We know a lot must fall into place for us to play games this September. I’ve said myself it doesn’t appear to be our most likely scenario. But there is one other thing we’ve learned in this pandemic: a lot can change in 100 days."
