Greg Stetski has been serving at Union Gospel Mission since 1986, but is now handing the reigns over.

The time has come for Greg Stetski to move on from Union Gospel Mission (UGM). While Stetski knew he would miss it, he didn't realize how much until the end got closer.

"I had lots of feelings about things, but as you get closer you start thinking back," Stetski said. "I'm realizing that I will be missing it."

The incoming executive director is Frank Ulrich, who says that he's prepared, he knows he's supposed to be here, but he's also a little nervous.

"I would say that I feel scared, nervous, intimidated, all those kind of things," Ulrich said. "In terms of the spiritual side of things, I do feel at complete peace inside that God has prepared me."

The work experience that prepared him for this job actually happened during the six years he spent working just across the street. "I realized that the upbringing I had was great . . . but I didn't realize until I started working [there] that people don't always have the same opportunities," Ulrich said.

"The Lord gives us the grace and strength and everything we need to provide His love and everything that goes with it for those that we help; the least, the last, and the lost."

The future of UGM continues to look great with Ulrich taking over and he says that long-term housing is one of those things they want to focus on.

"There are spaces in the Charis Centre for us to take in women who have been through the program to live longer term," Ulrich says. "That is a great need in our city . . . and we can meet that need."

Stetski was confident of that future happening with Ulrich getting ready to take over. He also knows that this is only possible with God being at the center of it.

"To come to UGM has to be the Lord calling you," "It's too difficult, it's too hard, there's too many disappointments . . . you have to be able to know that God is calling you here."

"Help the next ones, help the ones who have fallen when they come back . . . that's how we go on through it all."
