The Children's Hospital Book Market is back for its 58th year.

From today until Saturday, Sept. 29, you can stop by St. Vital Centre at various times to buy some books to help improve the quality of life for kids in the Children's Hospital.

"It's one of our largest fundraisers," said Children's Hospital Foundation spokesperson Tayna Williams. "It's run by approximately 400 volunteers who work almost every day a year preparing and collecting the books and getting everything ready for the two sales in April and September."

Williams says at the April book market, the Children's Hospital Foundation raised over $200,000 and they estimate they will break the 2017 fundraising mark of $650,333 once the September sale is over.

She says the money raised from the book market goes to three main areas, including CHTV - an in-house television station the kids can take part in - the book corner, and the family resources library, all three of which Williams says are vital to the patients and their families.

"CHTV is a really good distraction for these kids who often don't realize why they are in the hospital," Williams said. "The family resource library and the book corner are places kids can go and just unwind, grab a book or rent a DVD to bring back to their room, and if they're in isolation we bring it to them."

"It provides them with a bit of normalcy while they are here."

In the years the book market has been running, Williams says it has raised over $8 million.

The Book Market is open Thursday and Friday 9:30 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
