The City of Winnipeg says a fire-plagued vacant apartment building is being demolished to prevent any more hazards.

Wednesday, January 8, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant four-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Maryland Street.

The decision to tear down the four-storey building following the fire is for public safety. In a news release the City of Winnipeg says, "in order to maintain public safety, the building will be demolished to prevent any imminent hazards."

The city says six people were forced out of two neighbouring residences as a result of the blaze.

The building has been the scene of multiple fires in the past year.
