The City of Winnipeg announced that it is making its economic analysis of COVID-19 public as a way to demonstrate its transparency to the citizens of Winnipeg.

.After completing its first analysis of the effects COVID-19 is having on the City's budget, the City says they will need to find ways to work with the provincial and federal governments to find a way to slowly reopen public facilities.

"It will be important for the City to work with both the federal and provincial governments in the reopening of the economy when that time comes. We hope that comes soon," Councillor Scott Gillingham says.

Bowman says the City plans to continue to make long-term investments in hopes that they will be profitable after the pandemic is over. The 2020-2023 budget set to invest $369 million on projects to stimulate the economy, as well as creating over 2300 jobs in the construction industry

"I am happy to see all of this information pro-actively made public,' Mayor Bowman says.

The budget is available through the Decision Making Information System (DMIS).

"During this pandemic, all levels of governments need to be more pragmatic than ever before while putting politics aside," Bowman says.
