In anticipation of heavy snowfall, snowplows will be on the street for a longer period of time overnight Monday.

"In response to recent accumulations of snow and to facilitate snow clearing, an Extended Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting at 12 a.m. on Tuesday," the City says in a statement.

At midnight the City of Winnipeg's Snow Route Parking Ban is being extended instead of starting at 2 a.m. as usual. The ban will be in effect until 7 a.m. They are asking residents to know their zone to not park on the street to avoid being ticked $100 or being towed.

"Snow routes are a top priority for snow clearing and ice control to ensure that emergency vehicles can navigate quickly and safely around the city. It’s important that vehicles are not parked on snow routes overnight in order to enable rapid and efficient snow clearing and ice control of these critical routes."

They ask for drivers to use extreme caution when travelling near heavy equipment and to drive to the conditions.

Approximately 15-25 cm of snow is expected to fall in the city between Tuesday and Tuesday night. Environment Canada says more snow is possible.
