The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) is once again inviting the community to sit down and share a cup of coffee with local police.

Coffee With a Cop has been taking place in Winnipeg since October. It's a program that began in California in 2011 and has since spread across North America. According to the organization, it was the "result of a brainstorming session. Members of the Hawthorne Police Department were looking for ways to interact more successfully with the citizens they served each day."

The WPS hopes the event will begin a new chapter in community policing.

According to the WPS, there will be "no agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions and get to know the officers in your area."

The next event takes place Tuesday, December 19, at the McDonald's at 1251 Portage Ave. It will run from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
