Collision creates large delays on Portage for afternoon rush hour

Motorists can expect major delays on one of Winnipeg's major routes this afternoon after a motor vehicle collision occurred.

Westbound Portage Avenue is closed at the Empress Overpass, and traffic is being rerouted down Wall Street. Eastbound traffic has also been closed at St. John's Ambulance Way.

Westbound traffic is said to be backed up all the way to Main Street. Due to the rerouted traffic, significant delays are occurring on Wall Street and St. Matthews Avenue.

There are also significant delays happening in the downtown area due to construction. Until July 7, the Norwood Bridge from Stradbrook to St. Mary's Road will have the southbound median lane closed.
