For many the holidays are a time of joy and celebration, but for others it is a reminder of the passing of a loved one.

It can be hard to figure out how to deal with those emotions, so Albright Church in East St. Paul is offering a grief seminar to help people get through the holidays.

Melissa Perry with Albright Church says there are a number of ways to deal with the whirlwind of emotions that may arise.

"For events especially, knowing that it is okay if you have leave early, knowing that you can expect some emotions to come up, planning ahead, making sure you are going with someone that you feel safe with or different things like that," explained Perry.

Numbing the pain during the holidays can be a go to for many, but Perry says it is very important to approach those feelings head on.

"There is a temptation to avoid the holidays or things like that and you can become quite angry if you don't end up dealing with things. You can't really find real joy without dealing with the issues and with what's going on," explained Perry.

She says that they have a lot of people who take advantage of the grief seminar year after year.

"Each time that you go to it you will be in a different place in your journey and you'll get more out of it maybe, the second time," said Perry. "You can hear the same thing a few times and get something different out of it each time"

The Surviving the Holidays GriefShare seminar will take place on Wednesday December 5th from 6:30-8:30pm.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to contact the church.
