Parties involved with the Dauphin Correctional Centre (DCC) are announcing a new agreement to help DCC employees find employment after the facility's closure.

Justice Minister Cliff Cullen says they are "pleased to report that the government has finalized an agreement with the employees’ union."

Earlier this year, the community expressed that they are "devastated" at the loss of the correctional facility. At least 80 jobs in the community will be lost due to the closure.

"We worked with the union to conclude this agreement within a month from the date we informed the employees and their union of the decision," Cullen says. "We thank our employees for their patience with this process."

Cullen says that the province will be working with DCC employees to find government jobs, or provide DCC employees with assistance while they seek other opportunities. He also adds that they plan to support both those planning to stay in Dauphin and those looking to relocate.

The Dauphin Correctional Centre will close by May of this year. Cullen adds that the decision to close the facility "was not made lightly" and is thanking employees for their patience.
