St. Therese Child Care has reopened, a month following the devastating blaze that turned a significant portion of their property to ash.

The daycare opened its doors last Monday for the first time since rebuilding. "Wee've had lots of kids return, so the staff have been super excited to see the kids, and the kids have been super excited to see the staff," Cathy Somerset, Acting Executive Director of St. Therese Child Care. "It's been really amazing!"

"The city of Winnipeg and the child care community is amazing," Somerset said. The daycare has received numerous donations of tables, chairs, toys, and equiptment, all contributing to the rebuilding process St. Therese's has been undergoing the past month. "Everyone is pulling together."

St. Therese has still experiencing struggles, however, even with the process of reopening. "We were kind of hoping that more kids would come back," Somerset shared, "but it's amazing to see when some parents have come back that the reason they are coming back and the reason they are putting their children through [the process of relocating], is because they love the staff and the staff love their children."

Though she has only been the Acting Executive Director at St. Therese for six months, Somerset explained that a passion for quality child care is what has kept her going throughout this ordeal. In addition, she has relied heavily on her faith in spite of the difficulty that has faced the daycare in its journey to re-opening.

"The journey and the path that God has had us on has been amazing, and everytime we've needed a miracle or direction, or wisdom, I just feel like He's wrapped himself around us and has gotten us through this," Somerset expressed. "This has been incredibly stressful, but the whole way, you can feel God.

"As a single parent, I often say it takes a village to raise my children... now I say that it took the city of Winnipeg to help St. Therese Child Care come back together again."
