Residents who filled their gas thanks on Fuel Good Day have helped Red River Co-op make a large donation to Winnipeg Harvest.

Fuel Good Day was held in September across all Co-op locations. During the day, 5 cents from every litre of fuel purchased is donated to a local organization. This year, the recipient for Red River Co-op locations was Winnipeg Harvest.

"They do a lot of great work in the community," said Sheldon Appelle, Communications Manager, Winnipeg Harvest. "They are a voice in the community and we very much appreciate it."

Red River Co-op presented Harvest with a check yesterday for $47,000, the amount raised by drivers filling up with gas. Over the past 5 years, Red River Co-op has donated more than $884,874 to local causes.

"Our main goal is to end poverty and hunger across Manitoba," said Appelle. "This will help us get tons and tons of food . . . and training to get people back in the work force."

Winnipeg Harvest will be hosting their next big fundraiser at BellMTS Place, Wednesday, November 1. $10 gets you a bottomless bowl of soup and endless bread, plus a chance to win celebrity signed bowls. The money goes towards supporting Winnipeg Harvest's mission to feed those in poverty.
