Test two of the Alert Ready emergency alerting system is being called a success by Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization.

"We have confirmation from Pelmorex, who is the operator of the Alert Ready system, and they received it successfully from Manitoba and they were able to issue it successfully to broadcasters and wireless service providers, and they've also communicated to us that they were able to successfully push it out to their customers," says EMO operations program manager Mike Olczyk.

Some people received the test alert multiple times on their wireless devices.

Bell MTS director of communications Marc Choma says in an email it's possible some customers may have received additional alerts from bordering provinces or territories. He also says receiving the alert depends on device compatibility and connection to an LTE network at the time the alert was issued.

Olczyk says feedback can be provided on the Manitoba EMO website.

"Our hope is as many Manitobans as possible can receive these alerts. We do the tests to find these things out and to make improvements for the future. The system is there in the event of an emergency or a disaster where there is a potential imminent threat to life safety, so these public awareness tests also enable people to be familiar with what the sound is, the Canadian Alert Attention Signal, as well as what they look like."

Olczyk says the next scheduled test is in May 2019, during Emergency Preparedness Week.
