Extreme cold warnings are continuing Christmas day and could remain over the next week.

Bitterly cold air has now moved into southern Manitoba behind a cold front which came through the province on Saturday. This cold Arctic airmass will be with us for the foreseeable future with extreme wind chill values near or below -40 expected, especially during the overnight and morning hours over the next 5 to 8 days.

Slight relief in extreme wind chill values will occur during the daylight hours but extreme wind chill values of -40 or colder are expected to return in the overnight.

Wind chill values near or below -40 can be expected at times through the Christmas period.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Keep emergency supplies in your vehicles such as extra blankets and jumper cables.
