For over two hours this morning, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) battled a blaze on St. Anne's Road.

At 5:26 a.m. WFP responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey, single-family home in the 1600 block of St. Anne’s Road.

WFPS says, "Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from the roof of the house.

"An offensive attack was launched, with crews using water tankers to shuttle water in as the home is outside of the City of Winnipeg water district. The fire was declared under control at 7:53 a.m."

It is reported the home suffered significant damage.

The occupants of the residence had self-evacuated prior to crew arrival except for their cat that was located inside the home and brought to safety.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
