Winnipeg fire crews are cleaning up following an early morning blaze in the city's Centennial neighbourhood.

The fire broke out shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday in a vacant two-storey apartment complex at the corner of Isabel Street and Alexander Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the building. An offensive fire attack was launched, but deteriorating conditions led the crew to transition to a defensive attack using an aerial ladder. The fire was declared under control shortly after 4 a.m.

No one was inside the building and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
