A Winnipeg church suffered significant damage following a fire Tuesday afternoon.

The fire broke out just before 2 p.m. at the Holy Ascension Greek Orthodox Church on Euclid Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, smoke was coming from the building. 

Firefighters spent just over an hour to get the blaze under control.

No one was in the building when the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.

Holy Ascension Greek Orthodox Church already had  previous water and heat damage from fires in nearby buildings on Main Street in 2021 and 2023.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
