Fire crews were kept busy Monday morning battling a fire in the North End.

The blaze broke out just before 7:45 a.m. in a vacant two-storey home in the 1000 block of Selkirk Avenue.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found a well-involved fire, with heavy smoke and flames coming from the house.

Due to the heavy fire conditions, crews were not able to enter the house. They fought the fire defensively, applying water to the fire using handlines and an aerial ladder, while also protecting the neighbouring homes. The fire was declared under control just after 9 a.m.

Residents from neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution.

No injuries were reported.

The house is considered a complete loss and arrangements have been made for the building to be demolished.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
