A pair of former Winnipeggers had a special encounter this week.

Following the New York Rangers' final regular season game on Thursday, Rangers Captain and former Winnipeg Jet, Jacob Trouba, met with 18-year-old Isaiah Márquez-Greene on the ice.

"I've been a fan of you since Winnipeg," said Márquez-Greene. I used to live there. From when I was five until I was eight."

Trouba gave Isaiah the jersey off his back and asked him to join him on the bench, where he signed the jersey and presented him with a special gift.

"I know your story," said Trouba. "I feel for you. You're an amazing human."

In 2012, Isaiah Márquez-Greene, eight years old at the time, survived a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed 26 people, including 20 children, one of those being his younger sister, Ana Márquez-Greene.

While on the bench, Trouba presented Isaiah, who wants to be a lawyer, with the Garden of Dreams Inspire Scholarship.

"It's a scholarship for law school. You're going to graduate from college. You're going to go to law school, and you're going to have no debt coming out of school. You deserve it."

Trouba also gave Isaiah his phone number so that he could be present when Isaiah finishes his schooling.

"I want an invitation when you graduate from law school. You're an amazing person."

Isaiah, who is top of his class at Taft High School in Watertown, Connecticut, has been accepted at the University of Connecticut.
