Used to singing backup, a Canadian Christian pop/R&B artist is now stepping into the limelight.

Charity Grant is a singer/songwriter who is new to the Christian music scene when it comes to releasing original songs. However, she's been singing on stage for most of her life. Grant's first single released in August is 'Pressure.'

"This is my first release. I spent the majority of my teenage years and young adult life leading worship at my dad's church in Ottawa. I've been leading worship for a long time and singing backup for various artists."

This new single was the second song Grant has written on her own as an artist, but the first single to be released.

"There were so many elements of inspiration for this song. The first few lines came from observing a lot of pastors actually who I knew were having a very rough time in their personal lives, their marriages. They wanted to stay up front, stay preaching. I thought, what do you lose by just stepping back and taking care of what's most important."

Speaking of things that are important, Grant met her fiance earlier this year.

"I'm in the process of moving. I just got engaged and my fiance is from Atlanta, Georgia."

Originally from Ottawa, Ontario, Grant moved to Atlanta in August to be with her fiance, Markus. Her first song was recorded and produced in Canada.

"I kind of have to start from scratch finding producers that are more local because it's harder to do things virtually from afar."

Grant is hoping to release more music shortly.

When asked what she hopes listeners take away from her music, Grant says, "Knowing God yourself, trusting God yourself and going down the path that He is calling you to go down. Not what He's calling someone else to or what seems popular, but what is He telling you."
