In Loving Memory of Garry Peter Hamm

It is with profound surprise and deep sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Garry Peter Hamm on January 2, 2024, while spending the holidays with his family on Vancouver Island in Courtney, B.C.. Garry battled a very short but aggressive lung cancer that left us heartbroken, yet we are grateful he didn’t suffer and was surrounded by love.
Born to Katherine and Fredrick Hamm, September 29, 1949 in Winkler, Manitoba. Garry grew up alongside his brothers Donn and Murray — their late sister Eileen died in childbirth. He carved a life rich with love, laughter, and enduring relationships. Garry was a dedicated brother, working closely with Donn at Hamm’s Garage and sharing memorable years with Murray on the pipeline. These bonds, forged in youth, remained unbreakable through constant communication and shared experiences, despite distances.
Garry's heart was always full when it came to his family. Garry shared his final days with Svea, the mother of their children, Cory (Celina), Darran (Andrea), and Brandie (Sean), and all his living grandkids. He revelled in the joys of being a grandfather to Leif, Sierra, Stela, Ashlan, Aubrey, and Shay. His smile lit up a room every time he got to hold a new grandchild. We are beyond grateful Dad was surrounded by family, filled with games, laughter, Christmas dinner, hugs, and love from everyone, even his beloved dog, Jake.

Known for his expertise and respect in the welding profession, Garry was a proud member of Union local 254 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His passion for his work on the pipeline was only matched by the lasting relationships he built with his colleagues. Garry’s generous spirit, unwavering kindness, and reliability made him a pillar in both his professional and personal communities.
Garry cherished baseball, hockey, and hot rods. He spent his spare time restoring old classics in his shop in Kamloops, and his knowledge of cars was unmatched. He found peace in adventures and travel, sun on his face and sand between his toes.
Garry was many things — a respected welder, a lover of sports and cars, but above all, he was a father, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle, and a best friend. We will hold on to your laugh in our hearts and I’m certain we will all feel a little less sad when we close our eyes and remember your contagious smile. We will find comfort in the memories and the knowledge that his legacy of love, strength, and kindness will continue to live on in all of us. You were one of a kind. We miss you already, Dad. Love, your kids, the Hamm Clan, and all your friends. Rest In Peace.

A Celebration of life will be held this summer in Manitoba.
