A gas leak Monday afternoon led to the evacuation of several commercial buildings in the Tuxedo area.

At around 2:14 p.m., fire crews responded to the 2000 block of Corydon Avenue following reports of a ruptured natural gas line.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found a ruptured gas line venting natural gas into the air.

Firefighters quickly evacuated nearby commercial buildings as a precaution, and a nearby daycare was sheltered in place while firefighters monitored the natural gas levels in their space to ensure readings remained at zero parts per million.

Manitoba Hydro crews were called to the scene to repair the gas line, and at last word, work continues to repair the line.
